Kim Basinger first elbowed her way into the acting industry through guest roles on TV series and made-for-television movies. With guest roles on 1970s series such as Gemini Man, Charlie’s Angels, McMillan & Wife, Vega$, and The Six Million Dollar Man, she was soon chosen for her memorable role in the movie From Here to Eternity alongside Natalie Wood. Following the movie with a series of the same name, Kim Basinger then finally found her way onto the big screen. Starting with her co-starring role in the movie Hard Country, she would soon take the industry by storm with her acting ability.

One of Basinger’s most well-known roles was as Bond girl Domino Petachi in 1983’s Never Say Never Again. Prominent roles seemed to come much easier following this venture, as she was soon nominated for a Golden Globe for her part in The Natural with Robert Redford. Kim Basinger has since starred with numerous other Hollywood leading men including Micky Rourke, Jeff Bridges, and Bruce Willis. Since this time Kim Basinger has acted in such well-known movies as I Dreamed of Africa, Bless the Child, 8 Mile, The Sentinel, and Charlie St. Cloud.

In the movie 9 ½ Weeks, her ability to play less-than-savory roles was demonstrated in her part as a woman involved in an impersonal affair. Basinger’s acting muscles were stretched in the romantic comedy Blind Date, in which she starred with Bruce Willis. She was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Actress for her role as a naïve alien in the flick My Stepmother Is an Alien. Kim Basinger co-starred as photo-journalist Vicki Vale in the Blockbuster Batman in 1989, for which she was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Kim Basinger later played in such varied movies as Wayne’s World 2, The Real McCoy, Final Analysis, and The Marrying Man. She even starred in the music video “Mary Jane’s Last Dance” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, making her a mainstay for the younger generation at the time. Along with the rest of the cast of Ready to Wear, she received a National Board of Review Award for Best Cast. Though it may have seemed that Basinger would have already attained the pinnacle of her career, her award-winning acting performances were far from over.

L.A. Confidential, released in 1997, was Basinger’s most awarded role, with nomination for BAFTA and Screen Actors Awards. She was presented an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Southeastern Film Critics Association Award for her part as Lynn Bracken. With countless appearances as a presenter on award shows and as a guest on popular talk shows such as The Ellen Degenerous Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Kim Basinger is still going strong.
